Plasmids are small circular DNA molecules within a cell of a bacteria that are separated from the chromosomal DNA and can replicate independently. The gene found in a plasmid provide the bacteria with advantages such as antibiotic resistance. To determine whether the plasmid has entered the E. coli bacteria cell the appropriate condition would be nutrient broth to which ampicillin has been added.
