The nervous system transmits pain, while the endocrine system elicits the fight or flight response.

In conditions of stress, neurons in sensory regions sense stress and transmit the stress signals to hypothalamus in the brain. Cells of hypothalamus then transmit signals to pituitary gland, inducing the cells of pituitary gland to secrete hormones into blood stream. These hormones, which form a part of endocrine system, then elicit the flight or fight response, causing the boxer to fight accordingly.
