Iron is approximately 35% of the earths composition, but is only 5% of the surface. Why?

    Iron is approximately 35% of the earths composition, but is only 5% of the surface. This is because the five percent accounts only to the iron that can be extracted from the surface while the 35 percent accounts for all the iron present in Earth including the one in the inner and outer core.
