Why did la follette think that an elected official selected by convention will be more loyal to party bosses than to voters?

I think this is because most of the parties have a good number of followers who can influence to vote for them in elections. In this event, La Follette believes the system is corrupt and does not serve the people but rather it serves the needs and the goals of the party concerned.
