    B. Proteins and lipids

Plasma membrane is composed mainly of a bilayer of phospholipids which consist of phosphate heads and lipid tails emerging from each head. In addition to this, proteins are also embedded within this bi-lipid layer. At times, the proteins are transmembrane such that they emerge from both sides of the membrane and at times they are embedded partially such that they only emerge at one side of the membrane.
