Which best describes arteries and veins? Both have valves. Both are thick, muscular, and elastic. Arteries carry blood back to the heart; veins connect arteries and capillaries. Arteries carry blood away from the heart; veins carry blood back to the heart.

    Arteries carry blood away veins carry blood towards the heart. A = away that's how I've always remembered
