What is the difference between recessive and dominant?

    A recessive allele - is hidden when ever the dominant allele is present.

    A dominant allele - is one whose trait always shows up in the organism when the allele is present.

    They are basically the opposite.

    Recessive is less occuring than dominant (rare gene)

    dominant allele (or gene) is the gene that normally ocurrs
