In an ecosystem, there are typically more carnivores or herbivores? why?

    There are more herbivores because when a herbivore eats only a fraction of the energy becomes new body mass; the rest of the energy is lost as waste or used up by the herbivore itself to carry out its own life processes. Which a carnivore has to eat many herbivores to get sufficient energy to survive and grow
