Why are hurricanes considered more damaging than tornadoes when tornados have stronger winds?

    Even though winds from the strongest tornadoes, hurricanes typically cause much more damage individually and over a season.

    Hurricanes tend to cause more destruction because of their size, duration and different ways to damage things.

    Hurricanes caused destruction, on average of about $3 billion per landfall in the United States.
