Carotene would fail to accumulate in in melanosomes
Melanosomes is the most common lgiht-absorbing pigment that exist in animals which also serves as transport and storage for melanin.
Carotene on the other hands, is functioned to absorb light needed for photosynthesis process in plants, which couldn't be produced by animals
