A chromosome is separated (segregated) into into different gametes during meiosis, the two different alleles for a particular gene also segregates so that each gamete acquires one of the two alleles.
The law of segregation states that during the production of gametes the two copies of each heredity is separated so that offsprings acquire one factor from each parent. This law is called Mendel's first law, or Mendel's law.
