Getting used to the change of toxin levels, garter snakes get more and more immune to the toxin by constantly eating newts. The more toxin the newt has, the more the garter snake gets used to it. Garter snakes use special enzymes in there saliva to break down toxins, so when toxins come into contact to the mouth it gets nutrilized.
