During Meiosis, a single Cell will divide into 2 copies. Each of this copies will carry half of the genetic information that the cell has and later be stored on our sex cells (when we produced sperm or eggs)

The probability for the sperm to get a certain genetic information is 50 : 50 (because the genetic information divided into 2), exactly like the probability of a coin flipping
