Follicle stimulating hormone is the steroid hormone, one of the gonadotrophic hormones released by the pituitary gland into the bloodstream. It is one of the essential hormones for pubertal development and the function of ovaries. In females, this hormone stimulates the growth and maturation of ovarian follicles in the ovary before the ovulation (release of an egg from the follicle). It also increases oestradiol production.
