Identify the primary cortex associated with each of the lobes in the cerebral cortex and explain the function of each.

    The four main lobes of the brain are: frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal. Each is associated with a primary cortex (outer layer) with distinct functions.

    Frontal lobe

    Located at the front portion of the brain, forming our forehead. Its primary cortex is called primary motor cortex, used to control different voluntary movements of the body.

    Parietal lobe

    Found behind frontal lobe and above the occipital lobe - center part. The primary cortex is called somatosensory cortex which is responsible for integrating various sensory information (e. g. touch, pain, temperature, balance, etc.).

    Occipital lobe

    Located at the back part of the brain or head which contains the visual cortex necessary for different visual tasks such as motion perception, visuospatial processing and color differentiation.

    Temporal lobe

    Found beneath lateral fissure of the brain or cerebral hemispheres. As a processing sensory center, we can associate it as a cortex for emotion, language and visual memory.
