    This question is unfortunately incomplete. The burning of coal containing sulfur can lead to the release of sulfur oxide compounds to the atmosphere. These compounds combine with atmospheric water to form sulphuric acid. Sulphuric acid lowers the pH of atmospheric water vapour, and during rainfall events, precipitated rainfall will be of a low pH (acid rain).

    Acid rain is rainfall made acidic by atmospheric pollution that it causes environment harm, mainly to the forests and lakes. The main cause of acidic rainfall is the industrial burning of coal and other fossil fuels, the waste gases from which contain sulfur and nitrogen oxides which combine with atmospheric water to form acids. It is important to explain that the more sulfur impurities that there are, then the more sulfur iv oxide is released into the atmosphere, causing acid deposition in the rain water and into cities and towns.
