Animal burrows are an example of mechanical weathering. Mechanical or physical weathering is the breakdown of soil or rock into smaller particles. There is no change in the chemical structure of the rock it is just broken into smaller pieces. This form of weathering can sometimes be called biotic weathering because it is carried out by living organisms.
