Wildlife managers will also monitor the numbers in the population of the species in a particular area. Hunting regulations are based on the fact that a particular population of animals are in surplus at sometime in the year and that hunting will not significantly endanger or reduce the population of the species overall. The species in question must also be able to recover after hunting. It is the responsibility of managers to collect and manage this information.
