Knowledge workers are also those who obtain, manipulate, perceive and use data to perform a service that is multidisciplinary, complicated and unexpected. They analyse data and use expertise in a variety of fields for problem solving, ideas generation and new goods and services.

For example, a knowledge worker may work in any of the fields of preparation, procurement, testing, study, preparing, storage, programming, delivery, marketing or otherwise, and those (sometimes the same people) who work to use such knowledge.
