Depending on what subject you're talking about, it could be anything.
If you're talking about history~
then you're no doubt talking about ancient Rome, of course this being a highly successful ancient city, I believe it used the nearby bodiesof water for trade and such.

Hello.
The answer is: its on a peninsula.
Its surrended by water so it was easy to trade and it is beside the Tiber and Mediterranean sea. It is also used to get large amounts of lands.
