Codons are 3 adjacent bases in nucleotide sequences, where each codon represents an amino acid. Based on the nucleotide sequence of mRNA strand, the amino acids are added to the growing polypeptide chain.

for each codon in mRNA, there are t-RNA with anticodons, bases complementary to that of the bases in the codon. These t-RNA with anticodon bring amino acids that correspond to the codon in mRNA and add it to the chain.

    anticodon is 5' - cuu - 3'

    codon is 5' - aag - 3'

codon aag codes for amino acid Lysine - Lys
