The average adult exhales about 1.0 kg of carbon dioxide each day. How much oxygen is needed in metabolizing glucose (C6H12O6, 180 g/mol) to make that much carbon dioxide? Somebody answer this for me i searched for it and it brought me to this site but when i try to get the answer it just brings me to this page. But no answer to be found

The overall equation of aerobic breakdown of glucose is:

    C₆H₁₂O₆ + 3O₂ → 6CO₂ + 6H₂O

    m (CO₂) = 1.0 kg

    M (CO₂) = 44.01 kg/kmol

    M (O₂) = 32.00 kg/kmol

    m (O₂) = M (O₂) m (CO₂) / (2M (CO₂))

    m (O₂) = 32.00*1.0 / (2*44.01) = 0.3636 kg=363.6 g

    363.6 g oxygen is needed
