During an endothermic phase change like melting energy is being absorbed and is stored as potential energy during the change. The molecules of the substance have the minimum energy when they are close to each other like a solid. Kinetic energy depends on temperature. During a phase change, it is known that temperature do not change therefore kinetic energy do not change as well.
