    Answer is: heat capacity of the entire calorimeter is known.

    If experimentator knows mass of the sample and the heat capacity of the entire calorimeter, then he can calculate released heat by measuring ΔT.

    ΔE = q + w.

    q - heat gained or lost by the system.

    w - work done by or on the system.
