2.15 g of an unknown gas at 71 degrees C and 1.10 atm is stored in a 1.75 L flask. Solve for the density and the molar mass of the gas.

    For this we use the ideal gas equation for the calculations. It is expressed as:

    PV = nRT

    Density = m/V

    Density = 2.15 g / 1750 mL = 0.00123 g/mL

    Since,

    PV = nRT

    P = nRT/V

    P = density RT / Molar mass

    Thus,

    Molar mass = densityRT / P

    Molar Mass = (1.23) (0.08206) (71+273.15) / 1.10 = 31.58 g/mol
