BCl₃ is Lewis acid, that is an acceptor of electronic couple. Borum accepts electronic couple on the emptiest orbital.

    BCl₃ + HCl = H[BCl₄]

    BCl₃ + Cl⁻ = [BCl₄]⁻

    Lewis base

    acid
