Inertia is a property of a body through which a body resists a change which occurs due to applied force in its state of rest or motion.
For example, if a passenger sitting in the bus and the bus suddenly applied brakes, the passenger lower part is stop but the upper part move in forward direction. It is due to inertia because the upper part wants to continue its motion in the farward direction.
