What other piece of information is needed to tell if a molecule that contains hydrogen and oxygen atoms can form hydrogen bonds?

    If there is a single pair of electrons that bind to nitrogen, oxygen, or fluorine, the bonding to water is plausible. Hence a hydrogen can be accepted. If there is a bound hydrogen to one of the three above-mentioned elements, then it can be donated. The other information is the precense of lone pair of electron.
