Shampoos are in fact, slightly acidic (around pH 5.5) ... (It also contains a buffer so that the pH remains constant but that's another story) We make shampoo acidic because, under acidic conditions, the scales on a hair follicle lie flat, making the hair feel smooth and look shiny.
