Using EDTA as the titrant and a free metal in solution is called a direct titration. This can be measured using an indicator that changes color when the metal is no longer in solution. What are the other types of EDTA titrations that can be done and why would you choose to do one of those?

Answer: Back titration and determination of hardness of water

    Explanation:

There are three main types of EDTA titrations

    1) Direct titration to determine metal ion concentration using eriochrome black T as indicator

    2) Back titration this is used for determination of ions that form complexes at a slow rate with EDTA or cations that form stable complexes with EDTA for which there are no effective indicators.

    3) Determination of the hardness of water: EDTA is titrated against hard water at a pH of 10 with eriochrome black T as indicator to determine calcium or magnesium ion concentration.
