    Sound wave is a longitudinal wave that requires a medium to move through. This medium could be either solid, liquid or gas. However, sound waves travel faster in solids than in liquids or gases; this is because sound is a vibration and vibration moves faster in solid medium. The molecules in solids are closely linked and hence it's easier for vibration to be passed amongst them than in liquid or gas with molecules that are freely/distant apart.
