A electrolytic cell is set up as was done in this experiment but with a different metal. An average current of 150.1 mA is delivered for 17 minutes and 42 seconds. The cathode gains 0.1641 g in mass. If there are three moles of electrons transferred per mole of the metal, what is the molar mass of the metal?

    88.614 gm/mol

    Explanation:

amount of charge passed through the cell

    = 150.1*10^-3 A*17.42 min * 60 = 156.88C = 156.88/96500 C/F

    =1.62*10^-3 F

    molar mass of the metal = 0.1641 gm/3mole metal/F * 1.62*10^-3 F = 88.614 gm/mol
