    Explanation:

    Oxygen has an electronic configuration of 1s²2s²2p². It is the first element located in group iv. The valence electrons corresponds with the fact that it has two electrons on its outer orbital which is p-orbtial and would require 2 electrons to be stable and form a compound. It can do this with itself by forming a dimer O-O bonds or with another element by accepting electron.
