Answer: Ionic bonding is the transfer of electrons between a metallic element to a non-metallic atom. In ionic bonds electrons transfers from the cation which are metals to non metals due to difference in their electronegativities. Non metals are more electronegative than metals so metals donates their excess electrons in their valence shell to obtain octet or stable condition.
