    Water which is present in pot is liquid and steam that rises from the pot is gas.

    Water between zero degree Celsius and 100 degree Celsius exists in liquid state. This is because in this range of temperature, water molecules are held together by weak hydrogen bonds. These hydrogen bonds keep water molecules together but these hydrogen bonds are not strong enough to condense them, so water molecules are constantly moving and exists in liquid state.

    When heat is added to the system, energy of the water molecules are increased and they begin to move quickly. In this state, water molecules do not remain attracted to each other and eventually converted to gaseous state which is called steam.
