Does volume alone determine whether an object will sink or float? Explain.

    Explanation:

    The density of an object is the determinant factor if an object will stay afloat or sink. Density of an object is the ratio of mass of an object to its volume

    ρ = m / v

    Where p = density

    m = mass

    V = volume of an object.

    From the mathematical equation,

    Object with higher mass compared to its volume will sink while objects with lower mass compared to its volume will stay afloat.

    Also the density of the object as to be compared to the density of the solution. If an object A has a higher density than liquid B, and A is placed on B, A will definitely sink because it has a higher density compared to liquid B. However is A has a lower density compared to liquid B, A will remain afloat.

    Density (mass / volume) determines whether an object floats or sinks. If the object is less dense than the medium in which it has been submerged, it floats. if it is more dense, it sinks. Volume will definitely determine if a steel ship floats, as steel is far more dense than water.
