It was because of Thomson's Plumb Pudding Model that prompted Rutherford to do the alpha particle experiment. A question popped into his mind about the arrangement of the electrons the positive charge. He has suspicions on the validity of the Plumb Pudding Model and he thinks it may not explain the structure of matter.
