A 5.25 L tank holds helium gas at a pressure of 1655 psi. A second 5.25 L tank holds oxygen at a pressure of 440.0 psi. The two gases are mixed in a 5.25 L tank. If the temperature remains the same throughout the process, what is the pressure of the gas mixture in the tank? Assume ideal gas behavior.

    P = 1047.5 psi

    Explanation:

    Final moles of gas = moles of gas in tank1 + moles of gas in tank2

    Use formula:

    n = PV/RT

    Thus, PV / RT = P1V1 / RT + P2V2 / RT

    we can cancel RT thus equation becomes:

    PV = P1V1 + P2V2

    P x 10.5 = (1655x 5.25) + (440 x 5.25)

    P = 1047.5 psi
