    Water has a higher heat capacity than soil and rock, so the ocean takes much longer to heat and to cool than the land. Coastal areas will generally have more moderate temperatures than inland areas because of the heat capacity of the ocean.

It also takes a longer time to release the absorbed heat and thus shallow water in ocean remains warm till night when everything around it become cool. Also the high specific heat of water leads to wind patterns. During day time everything around sea become hot and in order to reduce their temperature cool breeze start blowing from the sea towards the land.
