Explain why the salt magnesium chloride (MgCl^2) has the formula that is does.

Could magnesium chloride also be written as Mg^2Cl?

    Explanation:

    The reason being that their oxidation number cross out each other Cl has a oxidation number of - 1 whiles Mg has an oxidation number of 2 thereby interchanging each other
