Sodium hydroxide dissolves in water according to the equation below. if the original temperature of the solution is 50°c, which might be the temperature after a period of time? naoh (s) → naoh (aq) δh = - 445.1 kj. mol

    The equation shows the dissolution of NaOH in water

    the minus sign of enthalpy signifies that the dissolution liberates energy or it is an exothermic process

    the amount of heat released is - 445.1kJ/mole

    So if one mole of NaOH is dissolved the heat released will be 445.1 kJ

    the heat released will raise the temperature of the solution

    Thus there will be rise in temperature of the solution not a drop

    Hence answer will be more than 50°C

    The answer will be 90°C
