Determine the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in a neutral atom of the isotope oxygen-17. Explain how you arrived at your answer.

    8 protons because that's the atomic number

    8 electrons to balance the positive charge of the protons

    9 neutrons because 8+9 equals 17 and you add the protons and neutrons to get the atomic mass of an isotope
