A student needs to know the molarity of a sulfuric acid solution. It is an older bottle and most of the label has been rubbed off. She can see that it is 98% sulfuric acid by mass and the density of the solution is 1.84 g/mL. If she knows the molar mass of sulfuric acid (98 g), can she calculate the molarity

    Yes

    Explanation:

    To calculate the molarity of the sulphuric acid, the student only needs to know its percentage by mass, density and molar mass.

    Percentage by mass=98%

    Molar mass = 98gmol-1

    Density = 1.84gmolmL-1

    From

    Co = 10pd/M

    P = percentage by mass

    d = density

    M = molar mass

    Co = 10*98*1.84/98=18.4M
