Write a net ionic equation to show that oxalic acid, h2c2o4, behaves as an acid in water. consider only its first ionization.

    The net ionic equation for the dissociation of oxalic acid is written below,

    H₂C₂O₄ - - > H⁺ + C₂O₄²⁻

    The equation can be balanced by multiplying the compounds with the number that would make the number of atoms similar for both sides of the equation. This is as shown below,

    H₂C₂O₄ - - > 2H⁺ + C₂O₄²⁻

    The equation above considers only the first degree of ionization.
