Speed is the absolute value of velocity. Speed being a scalar (magnitude) and Velocity is a vector (magnitude and direction). Both speed and velocity have to deal with magnitude. An example would be that speed would be 15 miles/hour while velocity would be 15 miles / hour towards the west.
