Processes used in separation of a substance into its components and the removal of impurities.
Methods of separation include:

2. Filtration - commonly used to separate an insoluble solid from a liquid e. g. sand from water.
3. Evaporation - used in separating a mixture of a soluble solid and a solvent through heating until the solvent evaporates leaving behind the solid residue.
