Which rule should be followed when naming binary acids?

    If an acid does not contain oxygen, then you name it by saying "hydro-", then the name of the element, and then adding "-ic" at the end.

    If an acid does contain oxygen, then you name them by turning - ate endings into - ic endings, and - ite endings into - ous endings.
