If the atomic number of an element is 6 and its mass number is 20, how many neutrons are in the atom's nucleus?

    Mass number - atomic number = number of neutrons

    Remember that mass number is the sum of both protons and neutrons

    The atomic number tells us how many protons there are

    20 - 6 = 14 neutrons

    There are 14 neutrons in the nucleus.
