Condensation is a phase change of matter, when it changes from a gas to a liquid.

We know that gas molecules move around very quickly, are spread far apart, and can't generally be contained.

We also know that liquid molecules slide past each other when they move and take the shape of their containers. They're slower than gas molecules.

So, when condensation occurs, the molecules slow down, lose energy, and become closer together.
