Which of the compounds above are strong enough acids to react almost completely with a hydroxide ion (pka of h2o = 15.74) or with a bicarbonate ion (pka of h2co3 = 6.37) ?

    I believe we are given the following compounds and their corresponding pKa’s:

    pyridinium pKa = 5.25

    acetone pKa = 19.3

    butan-2-one pKa = 19

    Based on this, we can say that:

    Pyridinium is going to react with both OH - and HCO3-, whereas the other 2 will only react with concentrated OH-
